Haria is the most northern of Lanzarotes seven municipalities. It can thank the Sahara Desert and strong winds for what some regard as Lanzarote finest beaches.

The entire coastline is known as Malpas de la Corona (”badlands”) and is strewn with white and golden sand which mingles intimately with volcanic magma forming small sheltered bays (a number of which are featured in this article), which are ideal for swimming. This preominently rural area harbours many of the natural marvels of Lanzarote such as Jameos del Agua and La Cueva de Los Verdes (See my related article 23xx on these attractions).

Our first of five beaches being reviewed in this area is known as El Caletn Blanco (”The big inlet”) measuring half a kilometre long and 9 m. wide, consisting of fine white sand.

Camping is also permitted on the beach, but you’ll need to get prior municipal approval at the Lanzarote Town Council (Cabildo). There is ample space for parking and the guaguas (autobus) also stops here.

Our second beach is known as El Risco, measuring 845m long and 8m wide and consisting of fine white sand. This beach gets very windy, although Isla Graciosa shelters it to a degree from the rougher seas. It is a 400m climb down (and back up !), so not for the faint hearted. The waves are moderate.

Our third Beach is known as Caleta Caballo, measuring 60 m long and 7m wide and consisting of white sand with pebbles. It is windy with moderate waves offering good conditions for windsurfing. This is accessible by guaguas (autobus).

Our fourth Beach in this area is known as Caleta del Mojn, measuring 100 m long and 13m wide and consisting of fine white sand and picon (the small black lava stones often found in gardens).

Our fifth and final Beach in this area is known as La Garita, measuring 810m long and 5m wide and consisting of fine white/golden sand. Calm waters make this a good practising ground before you take on the stronger waves elsewhere in the area. Unlike the other rural beaches, this one is in a semi-urban area, has a boardwalk and services such as restaurants, refreshment stands, telephones, parking area, washrooms and even a children’s play area. It is accessible by guaguas (autobus).

Insurance Offers26 Apr 2008 06:48 pm

In most cases, private health insurance comes through a person’s employer, who picks up the majority of the cost of premiums. However, today many people, who are either self-employed or who work for a company that doesn’t offer health insurance, find it necessary to obtain quality affordable health insurance for children.

There are a wide range of plans and offerings of affordable health insurance for children and it’s necessary to pick and choose from among the many plans available. For example, if you feel your family may need alternative health options such as massage therapy or acupuncture, you’ll want to make sure your plan covers these choices.

Affordable Health Insurance For Children and families.

Another consideration is the cost. Generally, the higher your premiums the lower your deductible. But, don’t let the lure of have no insurance coverage persuade you that affordable health insurance for children is something you don’t need. That simply isn’t the case. The cost of a major hospital visit can vastly exceed any premiums you may have not paid over the past several years.

Experts tell us that it’s very important that children have access to quality health care as they grow up and most people agree that in this day and age, everyone needs some type of health insurance coverage. With it you’ll have more peace of mind and, should you become ill, you’re covered.

The good news is there are quite a number of low cost health-insurance options available and navigating the maze of available policies is easier than ever with the help of the Internet.

Housing needs has always been of prime importance for entire
life span of every individual. This major necessity in life
intensifies as one approach the retirement stage. Houses that
had been comfortable since last many years at the age of
retirement now seem to require some alterations and changes.
Physical capabilities of persons change with passing time and
this leads to discomfort in performing activities that were
earlier very easy. So an elderly person now increasingly needs a
house that is more comfortable, safe and secure. Houses
pertaining to the individual requirements of people who are to
live in the house are more important for intimates who have
reached their golden years in life.

Certain modifications and renovation in the house where they
had spend most of there youthful time can render the house
perfect for seniors who are satisfactorily healthy and can
manage most of their personal jobs. These alterations are a
blessing for those who do not want to depart from the same
premises where they had lived for most of their life. But for
seniors who suffer from certain physical disability and need
some assistance for their personal daily routine activities
continuing in the same house can pose some risks. There are many
choices available for elders who want to go for shared living.
Assisted living, board and care facilities, senior apartments
and many other types of options exist of senior citizens to
choose. Every combination of privacy and socializing that would
be appropriate uniquely for each individual can be obtained with
little effort. While deciding on the house pattern that should
be opted one must take into consideration the personal health
issues and privacy concerns of every person.

Most of the old age homes provide health facilities and other
lodging conveniences to make life easier for people after
retirement. At a place where one can find like-minded people
most seniors find peace and happiness they wanted. For citizens
who do not want to miss their privacy an option of assisted
living is always there. An assisted living provides the comforts
of having help at hand whenever needed and also allows one to
lead an independent life. A qualified staff is readily
accessible whenever assistance is desired for cooking bathing or
any other chores. It also bestows elders with a feeling of
self-confidence that they are able to live all by themselves.

Houses for elders must take care of certain common
conveniences. Like the stairs preferably should have a side
support and the height of stairs should be very short so that
it’s easier for them to climb. The flooring ought to be of some
non-slippery material and the doorknobs are supposed to be some
easy to grasp handles. It is always recommended to have low
height cupboards is the residence build specifically for aged.
Low height of cupboards enables them to reach for things easily
and saves them from evident dangers arising from the need to
climb on any object to reach for some required article. With
just a little careful considerations life after retirement can
be made safe and happy so that the elders can enjoy their golden
days.

Train for SPEED Development

Face it, on any given day there are a multitude of factors that can adversely affect your game. The biggest dynamic I see in the game is SPEED - pure running speed. It seems that no matter what else may be going on on the field, it shows up every day, on every play. In our on-going efforts of attempting to dispel the training myths of baseball, so that you can perform better and more safely, adjust your running program to include speed development.

Speed changes the face of most any game. Look at this graphical representation of how 40 yard dash times play out on the football field:

[NOTE: You’ll need to go to
www.baseballfit.com/baseball-speed-training.htm to see this chart]

Note that there is 2-3 FEET separating each of the times; i.e., when the guy running a 4.3 time finishes, he’s about 3 feet ahead of the 4.4 guy, and so on down the line. Times that are only .1 apart are not that significant, but look at the difference between times that are .2 or more seconds apart (approximately 6 feet of distance). If the defensive lineman with 4.8 speed doesn’t grab the 4.3 or 4.4 running back as he scoots through the line, he has no chance of catching up to him.

So let’s translate this to baseball and softball.

What happens when a hitter with lightning speed steps into the batter’s box? Depending on the game situation, the coach may have the IF defense play “in,” giving them a better chance to throw out the batter on a bunt or slow roller. However, this makes it tougher for the IF to react to hard hit balls, increasing the chances of the ball getting through for a hit.

Remember, baseball is one big race. A runner’s speed down the baseline against a fielder’s quickness and throwing speed in catching the ball and firing it across the IF before the runner reaches the desired base. There’s the “race” between the base runner and the “battery” (pitcher/catcher). And this leads us to another key way speed affects baseball: when a pitcher has to deal with a base stealing “threat” on base.

As this runner takes his lead, do you think the batter has the pitcher’s full attention? No way! That runner’s speed is a distraction - if even a small one - that increases the batter’s chances of seeing a more hittable pitch.

Using our figures from the football example above, we know that .1 of a second translates to about 3 feet of distance. Three feet of distance can easily be the difference between a stolen base and an out, or beating out a slow roller for an IF single.

And all of this means more base runners, which usually means more runs, which usually means more wins. And the really great thing about speed is this:

SPEED SHOWS UP EVERY DAY

Pitchers don’t always have their best stuff, hitters go through slumps, and fielding errors are made all the time. But I have yet to hear a speedy ball player tell me, “Coach, I feel SLOW today.”

I could go on with this, but I think you get my point. SPEED, pure running speed combined with intelligent base-running, can be a devastating “weapon” to unleash on your opponents. It is used offensively AND defensively and is essential for ALL players, other than pitchers.

How To Train For Speed Development

Running speed has two main components: Stride Length and Stride Frequency. Both of these refer to running mechanics, which is beyond the scope of this report. A good way for ball players to improve their running mechanics is to talk to their school’s track coach to see if they can get some help with their sprinting technique.

From a conditioning standpoint, a key factor in speed development is intensity of effort. When you sprint at speeds below 90% of maximum effort, you are training for something other than speed. Data suggests that you have to train at or near 100% of maximal effort to maintain or improve speed. [1]

The best way to increase your speed and train the alactic-anaerobic energy system is through interval training, otherwise known as running sprints. A distance of from 30 - 100 yards is sufficient; vary the distance each workout. Use a work:rest ratio of 1:5, with 8-10 sprints per workout, 2 days/week. The longer the sprint distance, the fewer the reps.

Also consider speed enhancement techniques such as Assisted Acceleration (like running downhill on a slight 7-10 degree slope). This is also known as “OverSpeed Training” which trains a runner to move the legs more quickly through the range of motion. Resisted Acceleration (OverLoad Training) employs weighted vests, dragging a sled, and parachutes. This trains a runner to move more quickly under a heavier than normal load.

These techniques can help even the slowest player improve their speed by a tenth of a second or two. Remember, that tenth of a second can be the difference between a base hit and an out!

Make yourself more valuable to your team - Train For Speed!

About a decade ago the thought of a wall-hung television may well have been seen like a wishful vision. It was out of the grasp of most purchasers, with exceedingly high prices that requested taking out a second mortgage to gain these specially smooth TVs. But over time, these quality TV sets reached the level of attainability. Although, still not something you might just go out and pay for, it has recently slowly but surely become much more of a chance. Costs for these flat panel High Definition TV sets are now diminishing more rapidly than new house values, and have made the electronics vision a certainty.

At the moment there are 2 competing flat-panel technologies: plasma & LCD. Whilst each type offers a superb picture & these sets do appear identical from the front, the components on the inside is reasonably different. And thought LCD tellies have been limited to thirty-seven inches & smaller, sets with the liquid crystal display technology are at the present in sizes as large as plasma. Numerous Plasma TVs can be found on offer online at Digital Direct

Still, even with that, a lot of consumers conclude plasma to supply quite a few of crucial benefits over LCD TVs. The biggest benefit is that plasma sets usually contain deeper black levels-denoting that the blacks are in reality black & not no more than just a dark level of gray. This in turn means that the colours are much more amazing & convincing. The most recent models from Sony and Wharfedale have in fact taken the black levels to unbelievable depths, and as a consequence have created the best images we have seen to date.

In spite of the rumours that plasma television sets “needs to be recharged” after 7,000 hours, nothing could be far more from the reality. These days flat panel plasma TVs would often function for 60,000 hours or more, offering you with years of amazing TV viewing. Despite the fact that there has been a fear over problems like that of burn-in (correctly so, as this could possible ruin that expensive plasma TV). the newest TV’s include equipment to deal with image retention, providing pixel shift techniques that gradually move the whole screen and more essentially, remove any ghosting should static images actually “stick” the picture. This includes a white wash mode over and above an opposite mode to get rid of all the burn-in.

If you happen to know a horse lover or horse enthusiast, there are great horse gifts out there just for them. Whether it is a horse gift for Christmas, or a birthday, or just a little something for your self. The gift you choose will depend on the needs, accommodations, and personal taste of the receiver.

Sometimes horse equipment is the best kind of horse gift possible. For example: equipment like new saddles and bits etc. will make great horse gifts when they are needed. Another practical horse gift for any horse enthusiast who is not too fond of little horse trinkets would be a book about horses. A book about horses, whether it is fiction or non-fiction would be my favorite kind of horse gift. I love to read and learn more about horses, and so will many other horse enthusiasts out there.

Other great horse gifts for the horse enthusiast in your life include weathervanes, jewelry and t-shirts.

My mother grew up on a ranch in Montana. She has had much experience with horses, mostly riding. But she always loved to watch the trainers working with the horses. Therefore she learned a little about how a wild horse is broken in and taught to live on a ranch like hers, or how a new colt is trained. My mother watched the births of many colts while growing up, and even assisted in a birth once. We still visit the ranch from time to time, but it never feels like enough. I think that having little mementos of horses helps her miss the ranch less. Or, maybe it makes her miss it more. Either way, when she looks at her horse statuettes or jewelry, a little smile plays upon her lips.

Even though she has left her home in Montana and moved on in the world, my mother’s passion for horses has not diminished. She went to school for business and opened her own store, where she sells mostly trinkets and antiques. You can tell from the appearance of the store that the owner is a horse enthusiast, because so many items she sells have a horse theme, like the horse gifts we give her do.

She wears horse t-shirts all the time, many of which were gifts. And whenever she opens a horse giftupon seeing it she smiles more brightly than at any other time. The only other time I see that same smile on her face is when she is riding. She still has a horse of her own in Montanawhom she visits as often as she can. We have also dedicated time as a family to go riding every once and awhile here in upstate New York, where I grew up. Even though we do not have a ranch, it is better than nothingand it sure feels good to be riding again, for most essential and especially for my mother.

I find that that same smile (or at least the same soothing, passionate feeling behind that smile) appears on my face as I pet or feed a horse, as I ride, or as I watch them run. As far as horse gifts are concerned, it is really a matter of taste. Let’s face it, not everyone who likes horses likes little trinkets too.

The products available for the horse enthusiast are many. It is my hope that some of the ideas above will help you to choose the perfect horse gift for your friend or family member who loves horses.

I have tried to gather as much information as I could about what kinds of horse gifts are great ideas, depending on the horse enthusiast’s personal taste. I have identified for you some particular occasions where a horse gift might be most suitable, and I have done it all with great care, because I want you to be able to find the very best horse gifts for the horse enthusiast for whom you shop.

Despite our skills, experience or expertise we can still make a meal out of making a choice!

Here are some common reasons why people struggle to make choices, and some tips for making them easier.

1. Too few options (double bind)

Many people fall into the trap of believing that a choice of two represents a real choice when, in fact, it often presents a dilemma. If you are offered the choice of an Indian meal or a Chinese meal, when you actually don’t like either, then this isn’t much of a choice at all. And if you were to consider only two possible solutions to a problem, you could risk missing the best option of all.

On other occasions you may feel you have no choice. This is often a matter of perception as we are making choices all the time, even when we don’t realise it, and choosing to do nothing is still a choice.

When you find yourself having to choose between two alternatives, neither of which is sufficiently motivating or, worse still, you feel you have no choice in a particular situation, seek out additional possibilities by asking “How else could we do this?”, “Where else could we go?”, “What else would I prefer to eat?” Expanding the number of options available to you helps you see the whole picture and increases the likelihood of finding an alternative that is most appropriate.

2. Too many options

On other occasions we seem to be faced with so much choice that we become overwhelmed and are unable to make the simplest of decisions, such as choosing a meal from an extensive menu, selecting a colour to decorate the home or deciding upon a course of action to resolve a problem at work. Or, we take the advice above too far and continue to seek out new options and defer making any decision.

Focusing on too many options can result in a lack of progress or, in too little time or attention being allocated to each.

When faced with too much choice it helps to prioritise the options based upon your goals and criteria that are important to you. If you were choosing a new home you would probably have an idea of what you wanted and what was most important e.g. location, garden, pool, school, price, amenities, décor, etc.

And remember, not choosing one option today doesn’t mean you can never have that in the future, you just need to choose what you want first, or at this particular moment in time.
Exercise:

As you think about a choice, or choices, you are about to make or will make in the future notice how you think about the situation and how you would illustrate it. If you have an image that is something like a mind map illustrating all the possible alternatives, in no particular order, try the following exercise.

a. Create a mind map of all the choices you have now.

b. Start to prioritise based upon your goals and criteria and create a list with the most important at the top.

c. Check the order by comparing one alternative against another. Ask yourself: “if I could have 1 but not 2 would that be OK?” - and continue through your list until you are satisfied with the order.

d. Write out your new list.

3. Use your imagination

Another reason for feeling uncomfortable with choice is when we base our decisions on too little nformation and limit our thinking to the present or the past rather than considering the future consequences of our choices.

In order to evaluate options effectively it helps to use all your senses to visualise each choice and future pace by imagining the outcome of these choices.

So, before choosing what colour to paint your walls, imagine in your mind’s eye what it will look like, and how you will feel when it’s finished, creating a vivid image of the result. Or, when choosing what to eat in a restaurant, get a sense of what the meal will look like, how it will smell and taste and how you will feel when it arrives. Whilst words and data might offer a sound basis for some business decisions, they often fall short when describing a meal.

Imagine you’ve already chosen, act as if you’re already there, and in your mind’s eye, get a sense of everything you see, hear and feel. Make this image as vivid as possible and notice, now that you have it, whether or not it’s what you really want and does it have a positive feeling associated with it.

4. Trust Yourself

How many times have you gone ahead with something when deep down you knew it wasn’t the right thing for you? At some level we usually know which is the best choice even when we’re not consciously aware. Trusting your intuition and feelings can be an important aid to making choices simpler.

Think of a time when you made a choice that you weren’t happy with for some reason. As you think about that time now notice the feelings you experience…..Now remember a time when you made a great choice and were fully convinced…..and notice these feelings. Your sense of congruence and incongruence is likely to differ and it pays dividends to only make choices when you feel congruent.

Congruence:

True congruence occurs when your choice or decision supports your beliefs, values and goals. It is a state of feeling sure, knowing what you want, being definite and trusting yourself.
Incongruence:

Incongruence is the state of having reservations and not being totally committed to a decision. You may feel confused, hesitant, and unsure or lack conviction.

Personal Congruence signal - It is useful to be able to recognise your own personal indicators for congruence and incongruence as this can be a valuable indicator of your own commitment and confidence, and could save you mistakes and money!

Where you notice feelings of incongruence before making a decision this might be a signal to check that the outcome is what you want, or whether additional information is needed. Ask yourself, what else do I need to be convinced?

The above extract is taken from our e-book Working With Choices.

This e-book gives you an insight to some of the thinking patterns that lead to indecision, inertia and procrastination whilst offering some tools to help overcome these obstacles.

Acne causes a great deal of embarrassment at any age, so here are some tips to deal with this issue quickly. Acne Tip 1: A pimple is actually a swelling on your face. What happens is that bacteria gets into your pore and then your white blood cells go to that area to fight off the bacteria. Acne can be diagnosed by physical examination and a medical history of acne. The physician will take a medical history, including information about skin care, diet, medications, factors that can cause flare-ups, and prior treatment.Acne actually takes about eight to 12 weeks to treat.

Dermatologists recommend a three pronged approach for topical acne treatment: First, unclog pores; second, control bacteria; and third, reduce inflammation. Acne begins when oil mixes with dead cells and clogs the skin’s pores. Bacteria can grow in this mixture, and if it leaks into nearby tissues, it causes swelling, redness, and pus. Acne medicine can take weeks or months to work.Acne is a common problem in adolescents and young adults. The disorder is caused by abnormal desquamation of follicular epithelium that results in obstruction of the pilosebaceous canal.

Acne occurs mostly on the face, upper chest, shoulders, and back and is characterized by pimples, cysts, and sometimes abscesses. Both cysts and abscesses are pus-filled pockets, but abscesses are somewhat larger and deeper. Acne is very common in adult women, even if they didn’t have problem skin during their teenage years.Acne is not a result of uncleanliness or infrequent washing. In other words, acne does not result from too much dirt on the skin or in the pores. Acne also can, sometimes, be prevented.

Talk with your doctor or dermatologist (a doctor who specializes in treating skin problems) about how you can help prevent acne and if treatment would help you. Click here for a list of generic medications that treat acne.
