Why Is it so Hard to Be a pro these Days?
There was a time in the not so distant past when online poker was easy. This was the time when the fish were just beginning to learn that there was such a thing as online poker. They swam in great schools to the digital tables where they were, appropriately, schooled by more advance players. At the risk of reviving an old cliché, online poker in the early days was as easy as shooting fish in a barrel. Unfortunately, however, the fish have now improved. They are no longer the wide eyed guppies that they once were. In fact, many of the original fish have grown into full fledged poker sharks.
The logical skill growth of the fish means that it is a lot harder to be a pro these days. It means that you have to know a lot more strategy than you used to have to know to win the pot. It also means that fewer people are able to devote the time and money these days that they need to make a tidy bundle at poker. If you want to be a pro now you either need to be skilled at high stakes poker or able to multitable aggressively. It is simply so much harder to be a pro these days because the fish are starting to wise up. They are starting to learn that it is more fun to be a shark, so are honing their skill set accordingly.
