Are Casino Gift Cards A Good Idea? The internet can be a scary place. We always hear stories of financial information being stolen or misplaced in the quagmire that is the World Wide Web. For the financially shy, however, someonline poker casinos have begun to offer a form of gift card system where players can purchase the cards ahead of time. Players can use their gift cards just like a credit card, but with limited financial liability. In theory this should be the best of all world; limited financial costs and the same great poker playing experience. It is a great idea for the financially shy, but does have its drawbacks. It is important to realize that all of the gift cards used by everest poker casinos have a fee attached to them. You end up actually paying more to use a card than you would if you paid through the traditional methods. If you are willing to pay more for the added security, that shouldn’t be a problem. You will also need to go out of your way to purchase the cards at a recognized gift card vendor. For the financially savvy however, you should look into other methods of paying for your game. The internet has come a long way since it was a dubious land of financial fraud.

Flopping two pair, even more so than flopping two pair, often looks like the best poker hand. Especially when you believe your opponent has a piece of it as well, such as top pair or an over pair, you can often attest that you are going to get paid on your catching.

The problem with two pair, however, it that it is often extremely vulnerable. Many online poker players like to slowplay two pair off the bat, but more often it is correct to push while you can and try to get the money going in before the hands that have you exposed catch up. Even when you are up against an overpair, which is a strong situation on your part, many cards can come that will open the gate for them to take the lead back. When the board pairs and does not fill you up, you have now lost to a better two pair.

Thus, not slowplaying is better with exposed hands here, but also, when deep stacks, one should remember to not wholly rule out hands that might have them dominated, like sets and straights and flushes. While we can’t stay hidden awaiting the worst, you also don’t want to have to give up huge pots with hands that ultimately are vulnerable to others. Strong, intuitive play, with a care to act within pot odds and implied odds, adds up to winning poker online games.

A Bad Fit Means Fold Smart poker players know when to hold ‘em and when to fold ‘em. Once you have decided to play your hand pre-flop, then you still have to make a decision about whether it’s worth playing online poker post-flop. Generally, the flop will miss your poker online hand more than 50 percent of the time. If the flop does not fit with your hand in some way, then you should fold it unless you have a specific plan for bluffing based on the other players and your position. But those occasions should be few and far between. Fit or fold is a good rule to live by in poker. Don’t make the mistake of falling in love with your Ace-King or pocket 10s when the board has clearly missed your cards and is shaping up to give another a player a better hand. The inability to let go of a hand post-flop is one of the biggest mistakes a player can make. This error will cost you a lot of chips. When the flop does give you a draw, you should figure out the pot odds to see if any bet is worth calling. Obviously if the hand is checked to you, then you can check too to see a free card. If the pot odds are unfavorable to call a bet, it’s best in the long run to fold.

Montreal is a lovely city, one of my favorites, and I wish I could have been there recently for the first ever first Poker Pro Canada Classic poker tournament. The tournament, held at the Four Aces Card Club in Montreal was a huge success, drawing about 250 players from all over Canada and the U.S. - even Europe - to compete for a prize pool of $369,000. t was the largest poker online event ever held in Quebec with a buy-in of more than $1,500. When the smoke cleared, local player Oliver “O.B.” Baksic took home $96,400 for first place. He defeated another local player, Maxime Villemure, on the final poker hand when he flopped a flush and slow-played it. Villemure hit a straight on the turn, all the chips went in, and Baksic’s flush held up. The final day of the four-day, deep-stack event lasted until 5 a.m. Villemure cashed for $75,000. Canadian Heads-Up Champion Benjamin LeBlond finished third for $50,000. Buy-in was $1,500+$150 Congratulations to all who cashed in this tournament. Had I known about it beforehand, I might have been tempted to go and play. Maybe next year. Congratulations to all who cashed in this tournament. There was a time in the not so distant past when online poker was easy. This was the time when the fish were just beginning to learn that there was such a thing as online poker. They swam in great schools to the digital tables where they were, appropriately, schooled by more advance players. At the risk of reviving an old cliché, online poker in the early days was as easy as shooting fish in a barrel. Unfortunately, however, the fish have now improved. They are no longer the wide eyed guppies that they once were. In fact, many of the original fish have grown into full fledged poker sharks.

The logical skill growth of the fish means that it is a lot harder to be a pro these days. It means that you have to know a lot more strategy than you used to have to know to win the pot. It also means that fewer people are able to devote the time and money these days that they need to make a tidy bundle at poker. If you want to be a pro now you either need to be skilled at high stakes poker or able to multitable aggressively. It is simply so much harder to be a pro these days because the fish are starting to wise up. They are starting to learn that it is more fun to be a shark, so are honing their skill set accordingly.

In a way, each hand you play in a session of poker is an open door to your opponent toward the money you have in front of you. Each hand might be the one that you might end up getting all of your money in, and it is up to you and only you to interpret and respond to the input at the poker table to properly maintain your funds. Calling instead of raising, folding instead of calling: each of these decisions can mean the difference in how much you win or lose.

Thinking of yourself as the gatekeeper to your stacks is one way to learn to respect the value of every bet. “What would I do if my opponent raised this bet I’m about to make?” is a great question to ask yourself anytime you find your hand reaching for a stack of chips when it has been checked to you. “If I get raised, can I fold? What are the odds my opponent has a better hand than me, and a hand that is worth reraising me with? What are the odds my opponent might bluff me, and how often will I be able to call him down?” Remember this at the casino.

Having the small stack at the poker tournament isn’t the best feeling-everyone else at the table has at least a few more blinds than you, and you can see your chances of winning dwindling with each round of blinds that goes by. If your chip stack is the smallest one at the table, chances are that you’ve either been dealt a rotten streak of cards or you’ve made a few bad plays. Whatever’s led you to the spot that you’re in, it’s time to buckle down and play a little defense until you can build your stack back up.

First and foremost, tighten up the cards you play with. You’re the small stack, which means that any one of your poker online opponents can put you all in whenever they get the urge to. Blinds are taking up a bigger percentage of your stack at this point, so don’t go into a hand that you’re not willing to bet the rest of your stack on.

Unless, that is, the table is begging you to. If you’re still not getting any winning cards, it might be time to buy up some blinds. If your table is showing some meekness, it could open up a window for you to come in and steal some blinds and buy yourself a little more time. Remember this next time you play poker online.

When you’re playing tournament poker, a lot of players will make the mistake of bluffing way to early in the online poker game. It’s understandable to do this-you’re excited, you’ve been anticipating the poker online tournament all day and now you want to see some action, and then the cards don’t come your way. I know that it can be frustrating to start out folding, but coming out bluffing just isn’t worth it. Early on in the game, the blinds are just not worth trying to buy. You just aren’t getting enough of a payout for the risk that you’re taking. Buying up blinds is a good way to build your stack, but in the beginning of a tournament, when the blinds are small, you aren’t making much of an increase when you just get the blinds. If you’re on the button, and you know that you can buy the blinds for a minimal investment, then go ahead. If the blinds are very tight players, and you know that they’ll either fold or only call your bet, then grab those blinds. If you’re unsure about how the blinds will react to your raise, don’t take the risk. Wait until later in the game, when it’s worth it.
